In our continuing tradition of rounding up new mobile application releases we found interesting and/or exciting over the past month, we present you with this new list of apps for August 2011. Last month there were some interesting iOS apps and updates along with some dynamic Android apps. The list, as always, is a bit subjective so please let us know in the comments if we missed an app or you have found one that you cannot live without. By Chris Oldroyd, Monday, Aug 8, 2011 | The Federal Bureau of Investigation has released an iPhone app called FBI Child ID. If your child goes missing, it must be one of the most stressful things to deal with in life. Most times they just lose track of time and return safe and well, maybe just a few hours late. If they don’t however, you need to know what to do and be able to react as fast as possible. This is where the FBI Child ID app comes in. Have an app you’d love to see featured on TiPb? Email us at iosapps@tipb.com, tell us about your app (include an iTunes link), and we’ll take a look.

The FBI has released it first iPhone app called Child ID. As the name suggests, Child ID works as a kind of digital passport for information about your children. With it you can store their photos along with physical identifiers such as height and weight. The app has several intended uses, the first a which is as something you can quickly show a security official to help identify your child if they go missing, say at an airport or a theme park. The app also has allows you to call 911 with the tap of a button and also call the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The FBI has created an app to make data quickly available on children in case he or she goes missing, reports MobileBloom. The FBI Child ID app comes with a tab that will quickly and easily send an email to the authorities. All it will take is a few clicks and the process can be started. The minutes immediately after a child goes missing are some of the most crucial and the app can get the ball rolling to find him or her in a flash. Other things the app does is give lessons on keeping children safe. The FBI app also gives supervision on what to do in the first few important hours when a child turns up lost.

The FBI has hopped on the iPhone app bandwagon but this app stands out from the crowd because it could actually save lives. The Child ID iPhone app gives parents tools to help report if their child is missing. It may sound weird to fire up an app if your kid is missing, as many would just dail 911 right away. That should definitely be the first action but the FBI Child ID app can be very useful because you can enter in more information (like photos, height, weight) that could assist in the search. The app also includes tips for keeping your kid safe. I’m very happy to see governmental agencies using the latest technologies, as there is real value in an app like this. It’s free, can be downloaded from the App Store here and I hope to see more of these types of services become app-ified. I also

The app gives parents a way to electronically store photos and vital information about their children, enabling them to quickly show pictures and provide physical identifiers such as height and weight to security or police officers in their vicinity if for whatever reason a kid goes missing (which, according to the FBI, happens in America about every 40 seconds).
