Netflix and Gmail apps updated with bug fixes and UI improvements
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Thu, 15 Dec 2011 03:00:00 UTC +00:00
Two popular iOS apps recently got significant updates, so fire up your iPhones/iPads/iPod touches and download your goodies. First, Netflix has redone the user interface for the app. It's a lot better to look at, shows more movies per page, and has a nice graphical representation of movies you have started but haven't finished, and how far along you are. The app also has some bug fixes and adds access for Latin America. Still no support for AirPlay, which is a bit of a downer. Meanwhile, Google has updated its official Gmail app. The new version supports nested label improvements, custom sounds (iOS 5 only) and what Google calls "numerous bug fixes" and UI improvements. The Gmail app is universal, while Netflix has separate apps for the iPhone and iPad. Read More

Por mi parte, voy a probar Read More

Google fixes Gmail iOS app but users still critical
Mini_discussion_bubble CNET iPhone Atlas - Posted Thu, 17 Nov 2011 15:22:59 UTC +00:00
Google's Gmail app is still getting shot down by unhappy users. Google's latest update to its Gmail iOS app fixes a glitch in the first version, but many users are still giving the app a collective thumbs-down over its limited functionality. Released yesterday, the new 1.0.2 version of Gmail for iOS squashes the original bug that broke notifications and displayed an error message upon launch. The update also sizes images from HTML messages so that they properly fit the screen. Users still running the original version are advised to uninstall or at least log out of it before installing the new version. The app now launches smoothly without errors, and it displays a standard Gmail interface with folders and categories on the left and a list of each e-mail header on the right. iPad users can take advantage of the larger screen to view the categories, e-mail headers, and each selected Read More
Google Resurrects Gmail in the App Store
Mini_discussion_bubble iPhone Download Blog - Posted Wed, 16 Nov 2011 18:42:51 UTC +00:00
Google has put its Gmail app back on the App Store. After an embarrassing fiasco in which the app was made available and then pulled after only a couple of hours, Gmail for iOS has been resubmitted to the App Store for everyone to download. Does the app still suck? You be the judge… With the Gmail app, you can: ● Receive notification badges for new messages ● Read your mail with threaded conversations ● Organize your mail by archiving, labeling, starring, deleting, and reporting spam ● Keep track of important messages with priority inbox ● Auto-complete contact names as you type ● Send and receive attachments ● Search through all your mail The original Gmail app was super buggy, and Google has made the following comment about the new release: If you already have the Gmail app 1.0.1 released on 2 Nov, you will need to uninstall or log out Read More

Gmail App Returns to the iOS App Store
Mini_discussion_bubble Mashable - Posted Wed, 16 Nov 2011 19:09:24 UTC +00:00
by The Gmail app for iOS has returned to the App Store two weeks after Google pulled it. The native app brought the functionality of Gmail to the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. However, despite its features, the app suffered from several fatal flaws, including the nasty bug that broke iOS notifications. As a result, Google pulled the app hours after its launch. The app also received negative reviews for its lack of functionality. “Two weeks ago, we introduced our Gmail app for iOS,” Google Product Manager Matthew Izatt says in a blog post. “Unfortunately it contained a bug which broke notifications and displayed an error message, so we removed it from the App Store. We’ve fixed the bug and notifications are now working, and the app is back in the App Store.” Version 1.0.2 of the app fixes the critical bugs, but it doesn’t add any new functionality to the Read More
Once-buggy Gmail app for iOS returns to the App Store
Mini_discussion_bubble CNET iPhone Atlas - Posted Wed, 16 Nov 2011 19:01:07 UTC +00:00
After what can only be described as a poor start for Google's much-anticipated Gmail app for Apple's iOS platform, the software has returned. The app, which was released earlier this month and then yanked almost immediately, had a bug that Google said broke notifications. It also served up an error message the first time users fired it up. "We've fixed the bug and notifications are now working, and the app is back in the App Store," wrote Matthew Izatt, Gmail's product manager in a post this morning. Izatt added that the app has also improved its image handling in HTML messages so that images are sized to fit the screen. Google says that users who picked up the original app need to uninstall or log out of it before installing the newer software. The app is noteworthy in that Google has avoided offering an Gmail client for iOS since the introduction Read More
Gmail Returns to the App Store for Take Two

posted by Jacob Penderworth on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 11:00 am.   Google has re-launched their iOS Gmail app after a failed attempt two weeks ago. This second attempt at a release includes full push notification support – let us know if it actually works for you. Google still hasn’t included multiple account or signature support, so the app continues to be rather pointless since Apple’s own Mail app includes these features. The company warns that if you still have the old app installed, you’ll need to uninstall it and install the new one for everything to work properly. Those who already have the Gmail app released Nov 2 must uninstall or log out of the old app prior to installing the new app. As you might recall, the previous release had a major bug with push notifications that rendered the app as useless. It also lacked the two features Read More

Reviews

Fast, stable, simple.
dimaspivak 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
Does what the web page does but faster and with push.
ONLY A WEB APP
RianFowler 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
This is not a true native app. It's just the Safari web app wrapped in something that can receive push notifications. The buttons, animations, etc. all look like sluggish html5.
need support for multiple accounts
Clay Morris 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
My school uses Google Apps, so I have multiple gmail accounts. I would prefer not to rely on forwarding, but be able to receive multiple accounts in one app. But if you have one account, it's much more aesthetically pleasing than native iOS mail app.
Still not native
Kevin Pazirandeh 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
I'm glad to hear some of the new features coming, but this still isn't an iphone app. "Enhanced browsing experience".I expect more from Google. This isn't 2003.
Seems nice
Syclone Josh 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
It is a simple app but has the functionality to manage gmail more in depth than the default mail.
Notification center???
Jared Karmily 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
No notification center? Only one account? What's the point. I might as well just keep my gmail under apple's mail client. This app is pointless.
Doesn't support iOS 5 notification center
Commandor Wu 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
Finally you fixed the basic function: push notification, ok, plus one star.In iOS 5 it doesn't have an option to popup or slide-in a notification. And it doesn't show unread notifications in notification center and lockscreen as the description in settings. With more than two weeks, you google team should not only fixed the push issue.I think your CEO is still alive, right?Until Gmail app has it's own redesigned UI, not just a web interface, 3 stars is the highest rating. Please keep hard working.
Great!
CylonB 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
I really like it, the UI is great - don't know what all these people are complaining about.
