Think about the Thanksgiving holiday here in the US and you think of travel to see family and friends, and fighting congested highways and roads. It's a holiday fact of life. Here's a suggestion for a bit of relief: the Inrix Traffic app for iOS. It's free (and no ads) and it provides real-time traffic maps, traffic forecasts, accident and incident reports for every interstate, highway and major arterial and city streets. Reviews of INRIX traffic products are generally positive, because the data they collect is sourced from long-haul trucks, taxis, delivery vans and commercial fleets, along with the usual consumer input and traffic sensors. The app also has predictive technology that analyzes the hard data, and takes factors like day of the week, weather, accidents and road work, and holiday traffic to figure out what is coming, not just what the current situation is. The company already predicts that there

This year may have been a disaster economy-wise, but app-wise it was awesome. I mean, consider just a sampling of what 2009 brought us: a wealth of GPS apps (most of them quite good), some way-cool barcode-scanning apps, voice-morphing, auto-tuning (still not sure what that is), and, lest we forget, bobble-head politicians--(OK, maybe that wasn't so much awesome as weird). The Kindle app brings nearly all the e-book goodness of the real thing to your iPhone--and in color. With that in mind, I've rounded up the 10 apps that made my year more fun, more productive, and just plain better. I'm not calling these the "best" apps of 2009; they're merely my favorites. (And I'm not including games, as I think that category deserves a list of its own--stay tuned for that.) 1. Dragon Dictation Barely a week old, this app does a shockingly good job turning dictated words into clipboard-ready

Provider of traffic and navigation services is “going Android” with a free application called INRIX TRAFFIC! providing drivers with the information of current AND future traffic conditions. In addition, INRIX argues their app is the only mobile phone app that combines real-time, crowd-sourced traffic information from more than 1.3 million vehicles with insight from hundreds of public and private sources. More than 160,000 miles of freeways, interstates and highways in 126 cities across the U.S. and Canada are covered, meaning that you can use the application just about anywhere in North America. In that sense, INRIX hopes you’ll use their app to avoid jams and reach your destination the fastest way possible. The interesting part is that INRIX TRAFFIC! is completely free — it’s even ads free — hence we’re not sure what’s their business models. The ads could always come later, right? Anyway, if you’re interested, search for it in

I use this daily for my commute
Olduwan
Version: 3.6
I recently started working at Inrix and I'm honored to be involved in this 3.6 update. With this update, I can now leave my iPhone plugged in to my car charger and have it up-side-down inside my cup holder an it will automatically orient the screen correctly. It's such a simple feature, I'm suprrised not a lot of other apps offer this. Before this update, I tend to get traffic alerts for incidents that happened behind me. Now it's more forward looking and I get alerts of things in front of me, making this app that much more useful. Program Manager, INRIX
Battery drain.

Version: 3.6
In true form Inrix releases another update that's broken. No app should be using the location services 100% of the time even when the app is not running.Update: battery drain has actually increased with the "fix". nice try, next time try a bit harder.Update: 3.6 no change on the battery drain. I turn off the traffic alert and the drain stops.Update: Inrix has reached out to me and is interested in my unique issue, very impressed!
Battery killer
muleman
Version: 3.6
Do not install this update unless you always have power to your phone at all times. It killed my batter in just 3 hours running in the background. They "say" they use only cell tower based location services when in background. But even that appears to use a lot of power. I killed the app and location services were STILL on. Had to reboot phone to turn them off. I don't need upcoming traffic alerts so this feature is not worth the power consumption. Reverting back to 3.5
Hghly accurate, cool new features like - view traffic cameras ahead of you

Version: 3.6
These guys have better accuracy than any other traffic app and have added a lot under the hood.
Great

Now they seem to pop up infront of me. Super accurate too. No false alarms. Keep up the good work INTRIX.
Finally I can give it 5 stars!

Landscape mode has arrived! I LOVE IT! I never start driving anywhere without checking this app 1st. It has saved me too many times to mention. I recommend it to everyone.
Save me lots of time on commute!!!

Version: 3.6
I tried this app in hoping to save me some time on commute during rush hours to work and home, which is already stressful. Now I don't have to figure out which is the quickest route, which is a very neat feature this app can offer. Thanks Inrix! I will highly recommend this traffic app. :)
Better and better, then bad

Version: 3.6
Amazing. After near universal revolt against last update's always-on GPS, this new update still keeps GPS always on. Strip yet another star. INTRIX used to be my favourite traffic app. Better interface, neater "forecast" than Beat the Traffic (BTT), and smoother reporting feature. But the latest update turns location service on all the time (and took me an hour, a full power cycle, and removing every app from multitask bar, just to confirm). This is inexcusable even though it may not consume much power, for it is useless to constantly update me if I'm not in the car. Until they put in a way to "Quit" app completely (like Waze and many other apps allows), I am turning this off. Speaking of Waze, its "social" update feature is certainly grabbing this user. Otherwise...Like BTT, it keeps the screen up when auto lock is on, which is important for a navigation app. But 3.0 update made it really worthwhile.I tried INTRIX in version 2.5. For quite some time I relied on BTT despite firing up INTRIX occasionally for data comparison. All things equal, I want to use the most accurate app, namely BTT. INTRIX uses Google Maps but its traffic data tends to be different from Maps app (which is effectively Google Maps); INTRIX's traffic is closer to that from Bing maps. I also found that accident reporting is a lot easier than BTT's - have to wonder why BTT still got better data and more timely accident display.Several weeks before 3.0 update, I started to use INTRIX a lot more, because I accidentally discovered a neat feature that made the two _unequal_: INTRIX can display traffic on local roads but BTT cannot. (You'll have to zoom in deeply to reveal local traffic.)More recently, I started to notice that in multiple occasions, INTRIX's traffic info was more timely than BTT. If this keeps up, I may stay with INTRIX instead.3.0 drastically changed several user interfaces, mostly for the better. 3.1 also allows low resolution graphs for speedier updates - a great improvement! (Most of iPhones are still on AT&T, right?) I like center-lock-unlock, "comparative traffic," and even better reporting. But these features now occupies disproportional amount of screen space and can get in the way of navigation. Those icons should be reduced in size, or compacted into a smaller strip unless a "button" is pressed. I don't understand AppsRadio touted for 3.1 - what (and where) is this? Yet another wish: Give a number for colour code. (I know most apps do not. But BTT does.) O, automatic unlock sometimes doesn't work, and the app tends to die near the Wi-Fi-mobile transition. So, let's see. Easier to use, cool features, useful on local roads, possibly even better traffic info. That's a win.
love it

Wow a traffic app that actually works
What does this give me that google does not?
iphoneatic77
Version: 1.0
I get it, predicting what the traffic will be like in 30 minutes is cool, but that is it. And one small accident and the entire prediction goes out the window. Even I know that during rush hour traffic is worse than it is the rest of the day. I don't need an app to tell me that. This is already getting deleted since they didn't bring anything new. I am still waiting for the right traffic application that is customized for me and gives reliable data in a better format than plain old google maps.
Real time traffic check vs. Google maps/traffic... Inrix not even close
Meffid
Version: 1.0
I got this app last week. I travel Rte. 95 In NH on Sundays. This is always busy especially the Hampton toll area. Sometimes traffic can be backed up for miles on a good beach day. Yesterday I checked INRIX before getting on the highway. It showed miles of backup before and after the tolls. I checked Google maps and it showed a minor backup, less than a 1/2 mile and wide open on the other side. I thought this would be a good test. Google was right on the money!! No traffic! If I had counted on INRIX I would have taken a different route way out of the way. I will be removing this app from my Iphone after I type this.
Finally! A pinpoint accurate and reliable traffic app for the iPhone
@funnylilworld
Version: 1.0
While a few other location-specific traffic apps are available in the iTunes store, none are as reliable, dead accurate or robust as INRIX TRAFFIC! (and how could they be, as INRIX is breaking new ground on a daily basis in the traffic business). Since downloading the app last week, I've identified congested roads and accidents (nice feature: description of the accident and where the info came from) and routed myself around problem areas - something to consider, particularly in Atlanta - saving time and aggravation. This app exceeds my expectations in nearly every way.
This is free because it's useless

This is the same as Google Maps only the maps are horrible and the experience is slow. Lets hope for an update or an exit!

Like everytime I start the app, it shows the map of the entire world. Please add the feature so that each time the app starts it will automatically locate the default location.

I love the integration of live traffic flow and incident information with events.
highly accurate

Version: 1.0
Try this app, then decide if google maps is as accurate. If google is good, then inrix is great. These guys did a really good job with this app, so far it's been very accurate. shaved about 8 minutes off my commute by taking an alternate route when noticing a traffic jam on the way home from work, not bad for a free app.
Best Coverage

Traffic jams in Austin are world-class. Traffics! unique data-gathering solution is ingenious and deadly accurate. The iTunes description of the technology will convince you. Thanks to the developers for their unique concept and app!
Impressive!
NaviGadgets
Version: 1.0
Luckily I just downloaded this app today before my commute home in Atlanta. Inrix Traffic! identified an accident on I-75 Northbound that would have had me sitting in traffic for a long time. Looking at the traffic map on the app, I saw green roads on an alternative route, which I took, and am now home. Hope to check out the forecast feature tomorrow. Very handy!
Most Accurate by far
Kenn M
Version: 1.0
Outpaces not only all other iPhone apps, but also the dedicated devices in my vehicles!
More accurate + interesting events
JimmyJames7
Version: 1.0
Seems to find traffic jams more reliably than other apps I have used. Easy to use. Also I enjoy browsing the events going on in my area on the weekend.
Pretty Darn Good
Sacto Man
Version: 1.0
What's with the world map intro? That aside, this has been right on with respect to congestion, and is easy to use. I really like the inter-city coverage!
Commuter
Tylee McGee
Version: 1.0
Beautifully simple and quick zoom to location on startup makes this very useful. The traffic data seems more complete than google maps and showed me a freeway backup way outside of Portland, which google maps didn't show.
Great traffic app
The Leucadian
Version: 1.0
Great coverage and the accuracy seems much better than other traffic apps (google, etc). Great job with the capturing the del mar fair event in San Diego and the traffic. I really like the auto zoom on your location at a high enough level to see traffic around you. Simple app that does exactly what I need it to.
Works great
Tmoney2002

Helped me avoid a major congestion problem today. Very cool!
Simply Accurate
vpoet
Version: 1.0
I take I-77 N to work every day, and this is the only accurate traffic service I've found, including FM services. With the construction, it also shows expected delays from the DOT.
Road Utilizer
A. Simone
Version: 1.0
The forecaster is great. I like to know what the traffic on a certain stretch of highway will be when I get there not what it is when I am 30 mins away. Also the alerts are great I like to know about traffic quandries before I get stuck sitting in the back ups they cause. I would have paid for this app! Plus the programing is top notch.
Nice App!
Chazmon
Version: 1.0
Well done. Shows traffic situations that Google Maps does not. Easy to use. Pretty much hits the nail on the head.
Outstanding application.
