Pogoplug Cloud Launches With 5 GB Of Free Storage For Mobile Users
Mini_discussion_bubble MobileCrunch - Posted Mon, 14 Nov 2011 16:57:21 UTC +00:00
Cloud storage service and device maker Pogoplug is unveiling its latest offering today: a new service for mobile users that offers 5 GB of free online storage. To use “Pogoplug Cloud,” you first sign up directly from your mobile phone or tablet (iOS or Android 2.2+), then download the app and begin the upload process. And that’s where Pogoplug really begins to shine: it automatically uploads the photos and videos from your device to the cloud – no sync required. In testing (on the iPhone), the process was pretty straightforward. You go to www.pogoplug.com from your mobile browser to sign up or login to the service and find the appropriate app for your device. You then launch the app, login and the upload just starts on its own. It really couldn’t be easier. In the app’s Settings, you can also specify whether the uploads can run over 3G, Wi-Fi or both, and there’s a curious setting Read More

Dropbox app brings iPad support, fantastic external editing
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Tue, 04 May 2010 18:30:00 UTC +00:00
The Dropbox team updated the Dropbox app today with full iPad compatibility and the option to choose which app will open a document. It's a very welcome refresh for an application that many users (myself included) depend on. As usual, the app is free. Let's look at the improvements. First of all, the cosmetic changes. While in the landscape orientation, Dropbox offers the same split view that Mail and several others use. Pictures and documents look great and legible on the large screen. Across the toolbar are icons to jump to your favorites, adjust your account settings, email a public link to a file (or copy it to the clipboard), mark a file as a favorite and finally choose an app to open a file. In portrait orientation the sidebar disappears and you're left with a full-screen view of your document and a few icons at the top. It looks super. Read More
Review: second generation Pogoplug NAS
Mini_discussion_bubble CrunchGear - Posted Mon, 21 Dec 2009 21:30:42 UTC +00:00
PogoPlug has gotten a fair bit of coverage here at CrunchGear, including a full review of the original PogoPlug device. A new version was recently released, with quite a bit more to offer, so an updated review is in order. The second generation PogoPlug supports up to four USB drives, offers gigabit Ethernet, has mobile clients for the major smartphones, and has a burgeoning independent developer community. That’s a lot for a $129 gadget! Features: Pros: Cons: Review I’ve been using Dropbox for a couple months now to synchronize my files across several different computers. It works, but sometimes I just don’t want my data living on someone else’s servers. The PogoPlug solves that problem by allowing me to store my data on my physical hardware, and access it from anywhere using either a web-based interface, a WebDAV system that makes the PogoPlug look like a locally connected drive on my Read More

Great App for a Great Piece of Hardware
Golem3 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.2
Nuff said. Pogoplug rules. I'd like to see better video and audio playback...multiple photo uploads simultaneously.
Great Idea! Still buggy
NOD 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.1
I love the idea of the pogo plug, streaming music from home is great but it's stops after each song. I also converted some movies to stream, wifi works great 3g doesn't skips and took 2 mins to buffer, not the pogo plugs fault. Also for some reason inside the app it doesn't read the size of the folder correctly.. Also on my pc it says I have a 2tb drive when I have 320gb drive? Overall I still love my pogo it just needs a few glitches fixed and it will be the perfect companion for the iphone.
Needs work
PhilipT18 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.1
There no help screen, so while there may be a good reason why I see nothing when I load the iPhone page, I don't know what that is since there's no help or documentation at all.
3 stars with the potential to be a 6 star app
DeterminedAtheist 3.0 stars Version: 0.9.9.82
It works pretty well for video streaming of iPod compatible files. I like how it shows thumbnails of the videos (they are however often inacurate or incomplete). The photo viewer is a joke. I don't believe there is a way to get a full screen view of a picture and navigation is a pain. The biggest problem though is that not all of the files or folders show up when accessing folders with a lot of files or folders. Lets hope this app lives up to it's potential because it could be a killer app if they get the bugs worked out.
Off site backup
KentSt 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.1
I hsve a small law office. I have been looking for a way for off site backup without monthly fees. Also a way to privately post docs with other attys that I may me working with. While not perfect, Pogoplug seems to be working fine. How about playlists so I can play more than one song? Please someone, start writting apps!!
Cool pinky app

Pogoplug
Lgalaz 4.0 stars Version: 0.9.9.82
Love my pogoplug. It's such an easy little device. I am using it not only for backup (hope it supports journaling format soon) but I use it to share photos with my family without having to blog it all. I can take photos on my iphone and upload them with this app to a shaede folder. It couldn't be easier.
Fantastic potential
Upstart Crow 3.0 stars Version: 0.9.9.82
Wow, this thing is very cool, but not working quite right for me yet. All my issues have been mentioned by other reviewers: 1. My music collection is huge, but I can only access about 20 folder from my phone, and AAC files don't play (mp3s do, however). 2. A search feature, please! 3. I have a lot of movies encoded h.264, it would be awesome to be able to play those! The desktop functionalty looks to be pretty spot-on, but I hope to see some significant improvements to the iPhone app. GET A POGO PLUG! It's great (3 star rating is just for the app, the device itself is very cool! And I'll be back to upgrade my rating for the app if updates are done!)
Incredible device and app
Martinm1 5.0 stars Version: 0.9.9.82
This is truly one of the best app/device combinations yet. For $99 you get a device that will network pretty much any USB hard drive over the internet and mulitiple of them with a hub and you can view the files on your phone. Can stream mp4 movies, mp3 music, save your pdf's to the iphone. Really incredible stuff.
Better than toast!
Sumfight 5.0 stars Version: 0.9.9.82
This little app is amazing. Sure, it does not do everything I want, but it's pretty close. Works fast too. Just testing the water with it right now, the one thing I would love to see is the music aspect if it is to make playlists from your pogo plug music folder, now that would be cool. Anyway, get the pogo plug, it's worth the money.
Very good v1
JDZ 3.0 stars Version: 0.9.9.82
Excellent idea and a decent execution with a couple flaws and improvements needed. The ability to search would be a great asset, and we need the ability to see the whole contents of a folder. Right now the list stops without the option of downloading more.
Love it!
Futon Pimp 5.0 stars Version: 0.9.9.82
Best purchase I have made in awhile. Time to buy a bigger USB drive ! I see tons of ways to utilize it
Shows promise
TAzMaN 3.0 stars Version: 0.9.9.82
All-in-all an excellent first rev. I do have a HUGE issue with the fact that it only shows about 20+ sub directories. My music folder has over 300 artists and I can only see the "A"'s. It DOES play music very well.
