Shazam 5.0 launches, can identify songs in one second
Mini_discussion_bubble IntoMobile - Posted Tue, 03 Apr 2012 22:27:03 UTC +00:00
Shazam is out with what is self-described as a “major update” to the app, version 5.0. It delivers a groundbreaking new feature thanks to rewritten software that enables users to tag audio and Shazam will identify it within a single second. Now, you can launch the Shazam app, put your phone up to a speaker that’s playing back a song, television show, or television advertisement, and in one second figure out what the hell you’re listening to as well as save or share it on your social networks. The app also brings up its trademarked LyricPlay service which scrolls through lyrics to songs while keeping pace with the song playing and information such as links to purchase, music videos, tour dates and the like. Shazam is able to do all of this far faster than any of its competitors, e.g. SoundHound or IntoNow. Some of the minor, but still notable updates Read More
Shazam for iOS Updated – Faster, Shazamier
Mini_discussion_bubble iSource - Posted Tue, 03 Apr 2012 21:28:30 UTC +00:00
Shazam for iPhone, the excellent song identifier app, has been updated today – to Version 5.0.0. Here are the the biggest changes in this update: ○ Lightning fast tagging and recognition ○ Instant listening on start-up ○ Start-up time over a second quicker That second item has been on my wish list for a long time. In fact, I wrote a post about it back in late 2009. I am happy to see the developers clearly saw that and thought ‘lets get right on that’. I think it’s a great change – there’s nothing else I want Shazam doing whenever I open it. As for the quicker start-up time and ‘lightning fast tagging and recognition, I did a quick bit of testing with Shazam 5 and the current version of SoundHound (4.4.1) and found they’re both pretty speedy. Shazam was maybe half a second quicker in opening and being ready to Read More
Shazam 5.0 offers faster tagging and startup
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Tue, 03 Apr 2012 18:15:00 UTC +00:00
When you absolutely, positively need to know the song that is playing on the background soundtrack at the restaurant or club, Shazam (free) is the go-to application. The app "listens" to music, queries a database, and responds with information including the song's title, artist, and sometimes even the lyrics. Shazam just got a lot better, with a bump to version 5.0 that should make every user of the app even happier. As you can see from the update screen at right, Shazam (I use the $5.99 Encore version) has improved tagging and recognition speeds dramatically. One feature I was personally happy to see was improved startup time -- when you were trying to get Shazam to catch a few bars at the end of a song, it was annoying to have it take so long to start up that you missed it. The app now launches much faster -- the company Read More

Shazam is going to be all over the Super Bowl
Mini_discussion_bubble IntoMobile - Posted Thu, 02 Feb 2012 17:38:55 UTC +00:00
The Big Game is this weekend and research tells us that you’ll likely use your phone during the Super Bowl. One of the apps you may use a lot is Shazam, as it will be connected to a large portion of the Big Game including some of the ads. You may best know Shazam for its ability to identify songs which are being played but the audio-recognition technology isn’t just for music. The company has been steadily making inroads into the television space, as you can now Shazam multiple commercials and shows. During the Super Bowl, you will be able to use Shazam for almost half of the Super Bowl ads. This will provide you with more information and an interactive experience for brands like Toyota, Best Buy, Cars.com, Pepsi and Teleflora. These aren’t just links to a website, as using Shazam on some ads could help you win stuff. You Read More
Shazam Player brings lyrics support and more to iOS
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Thu, 12 Jan 2012 01:00:00 UTC +00:00
The iPhone's default Music app already has lyrics support built in, but you have to fetch the lyrics yourself; songs sold on the iTunes Store still don't include lyrics after all these years. Shazam, makers of the well-known app that will identify songs playing in your vicinity after sampling a few seconds of audio, has released a free music player app called Shazam Player for the iPhone and iPod touch that addresses this gap in a big way. When first launched, Shazam Player will scan your entire music library to find songs compatible with its LyricPlay feature. Depending on how big your library is, this could take awhile; my iPhone 4S has close to 5000 songs on it (though for some reason Shazam Player only scanned 1600 or so), and it took about 5 minutes for the app to finish scanning my library for the first time. Shazam's lyrics database doesn't Read More

Außerdem verstecken sich in Read More

Daily iPhone App: MusicPound
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Tue, 23 Aug 2011 13:00:00 UTC +00:00
We've been covering a lot (a lot!) of iPhone games in this space, but of course there are many other types of apps on the App Store. MusicPound isn't a game -- rather, it's a music discovery app that's designed to compare your music library (on your iPhone, so you'll have to load music on there if you don't sync it usually) with someone else's. The app will give you a "Music Compatibility Rating," as well as chart your most played and favorite songs, and give you some insight on what kinds of music you both listen to. Obviously, the feedback here is mostly just for fun -- you're hopefully not going to keep or ditch a friend based on what this app tells you. But the app can give you some good recommendations based on what kind of music your friends like, and where your libraries intersect and diverge. And Read More
Pioneer’s app-enabled receivers play nice with iOS content sources
Mini_discussion_bubble TheAppleBlog - Posted Mon, 27 Jun 2011 21:32:10 UTC +00:00
Almost every car stereo available today has some way to connect to your Apple devices, but Pioneer is looking at even tighter integration with Apple’s iOS devices through custom-built apps, including one that works with popular online music service Pandora. So when the factory issued radio in my car needed replacing I decided to have Pioneer’s DEH-6300UB receivers installed. Here’s how it turned out. The Multi Control on the DEH-6300UB is reminiscent of click-wheel iPod controls, and offers the ability to navigate through songs, albums, artists, genre and even playlists, right from your dash. Playback, however is not limited to just the iPod app; you can play the audio from any app you own. One really nice feature: during the playback of a song, if you decide you want to hear more by the same artist, from the same album, or within the same genre, you just press and hold the Read More
Bravo, Oxygen and Syfy to Shazam their feature programs

The following Shazam for TV programming will begin on Bravo, Oxygen and Syfy this summer: In addition, all of Bravo’s “Summer by Bravo” promo commercials on TV, in theaters, and online will be Shazamable, giving fans extra information about the spot… I’m curious – do you dig the idea of Shazaming a show or commercial to get access to some additional content? IntoNow voor iPhone herkent tv-series
Mini_discussion_bubble iPhoneclub.nl - Posted Mon, 31 Jan 2011 22:16:34 UTC +00:00
IntoNow heeft 2,6 miljoen tv-shows in kaart gebracht.
SoundHound Free now offers unlimited Music IDs
Mini_discussion_bubble iSource - Posted Tue, 28 Dec 2010 21:22:00 UTC +00:00
[Mini Disclaimer: I recorded a few videos for SoundHound earlier this year, but this post isn't sponsored in any way, shape, or form -- it's just my strongly worded opinion.] SoundHound, my favourite music recognition app on iOS, is available in two different flavours: a $5 premium version and an ad-supported free version. Until recently, the major difference between the two versions has been the number of song IDs available per month (premium was unlimited, while the free version was limited to five free IDs per month). However, with this latest update, the free version of the app is now just as unlimited as the premium version (yes, I’m well aware of the Animal Farm-ism there). So if you were on the fence about which music ID app to use, I say skip Shazam and go straight for SoundHound (it’s like choosing a free Porsche over a Go Kart). Read More

Shazam for iPhone Now Makes Identifying Music Even Easier

Shazam for iPhone and iPod touch now sports an updated interface and support for fast-app switching in iOS4. The app now also features a new focus on music discovery outside of tagging. Google mobile search now includes iPhone apps
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Thu, 03 Jun 2010 20:00:00 UTC +00:00
Google announced a new feature this week that lists apps in mobile search results. When searching for an app by name from your iPhone (it works with Android too, naturally), the top result is a link to the app's home in the App Store. In addition to the link, you get information like rating, publisher and price. That's the idea, at least. I got limited results in my own testing. "Shazam Download" produced the expected result, but searching for Twitterrific didn't. I tried adding "download," "app," "iPhone," and other qualifiers to no avail. Likewise, searching "Bank of America App" worked, but variations on "Gowalla" did not. Google notes that "The mobile app results will only be returned when relevant, well-rated apps are found," but who knows what that actually means. This feature is limited to the USA for now, but Google promises that it's in the works for other countries. [Via Read More
Free Version Of SoundHound Now Available For iPhone And iPad

For the longest time Shazam has had a leg up on SoundHound due to the fact that at least one version of Shazam has been available in the App Store for free since its inception in 2008, but that has all changed today.  A free version of SoundHound is now available in the App Store, allowing you to see just how fast and accurate this popular music identifier is without having to spend a single penny. The free version of SoundHound provides iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad users with all of the same features as the premium version, but it limits you to five music, sing, or hum IDs per month.  It also features some ads, so if that’s something you can’t live with, you may want to consider a purchase anyway. You can check to see just how many songs you have identified during the month via the upgrade button. Read More

Apr 7th 2010 at 9:00AM @Billy Barnes said 10:47AM on 4-07-2010 "There's something about the "I still don't know how my iPhone does that" line that really bothers me. I can't quite put it into words, but it seems to be promoting the attitude that people shouldn't think about what their phone is doing" It"s not about should or shouldn't. It's about having things just work without having to know or think about how they work. This is how the vast majority of people function. We may not know the exact science behind electricity; but when I flip this switch the lights go on. That is what is important. Same thinking exists concerning automobiles computers and all electro-mechanical devices etc. We can be productive spending time making money, getting work done on a computer, doing what we like while some nerd geek is taking his computer apart for the tenth time. iFund verdoppelt: 200 Millionen Dollar für iPhone OS-Projekte
Ford to offer iTunes tagging in their cars
Mini_discussion_bubble TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog - Posted Sat, 02 Jan 2010 18:30:00 UTC +00:00
Jan 2nd 2010 at 1:30PM In related news, GM finally installs an adapter in their cars so you can listen to music on an MP3 player. If you look at the Sync™ site, you'll see that it works with almost all players, like the iPod and Zune, and USB drives, and most phones that play music, like the iPhone. And it plays most audio formats -- but not flac!!! ohmigod. This is a Mac site, so the fact that it will offer this is highlighted. I'm sure it's worked out so that it will do much the same with any player that accepts tags and can buy things from the web. Why not? And you may not know yet, but there's no DRM on an iPod or in iTunes any more, except for Audible and the film studios, who insist on DRM. Of course, those tracks play with Sync. If this Read More

Shazam Encore And (Shazam) RED On Sale For The Holidays
Mini_discussion_bubble Apple iPhone Apps - Posted Mon, 21 Dec 2009 21:38:10 UTC +00:00
Shazam Entertainment caused quite a stir when they announced that they would be crippling the free version of their popular music identifying app in order to make room for a more full-featured paid version, but no matter where you stand on that issue, you have to appreciate the fact that both paid versions of Shazam are once again priced lower than the competing Midomi SoundHound by $2.00 just for the holidays. Shazam Encore contains all of the free version’s features, including the ability to share song tags through a variety of services and purchase music directly through iTunes, but it also features a new interface, speed improvements, music recommendations, hot and popular music charts, song lyrics, the ability to search for music by artist, album, or track, a drive and tag mode that makes it easier to discover music while the device is docked, and, of course, unlimited song tagging. Shazam Launches $4.99 iPhone App, Cripples Free Version
Mini_discussion_bubble Apple iPhone Apps - Posted Mon, 09 Nov 2009 19:22:16 UTC +00:00
Shazam Entertainment has just launched a new music identifying app for the iPhone titled Shazam Encore, which is now available in the App Store for $4.99, and as a result of this, the free Shazam iPhone app has been crippled to only allow you to identify up to five songs per month. According to The Wall Street Journal, the move to a paid version simply had to be done thanks to a slumping economy.  Shazam Entertainment’s chief executive Andrew Fisher stated that the company just wasn’t making enough off of in-app advertisements and iTunes downloads to sustain its current business model. Mr. Fisher says mobile advertising was one of the first victims of the recession, and he doesn’t expect ad rates to bounce to levels to sustain free apps for at least two years. Fisher further backed up that statement by saying the company makes most of its money by selling the app Read More
Shazam picking up investors, boasts 50 million users

Oct 20th 2009 at 10:30AM Great app, and I have no idea how they intend to make money with either business model: Free or $5/month? Sure, ad support for a free version might work, but I do not notice adds on web pages, in iPhone apps, or on TV OK, TIVO and Replay fixed that. For the other locations, however, my brain works as a fine editor bypassing them. I am not sure Shazam delivers value on a subscription basis. It could well join the ranks of other subscription services that deftly avoid a large user and buyer base: All would love everything to be free; most are willing to pay a one-time fee to purchase; and fewer want to pay for a subscription. -digaos...probably because its not free? I went back and forth for a bit, and ended up preferring Midomi to Shazam. But that's just me apparently. :) It's Read More

Using it to recognize TV shows and ads is very cool! Try Shazam's player app too. Great way to listen to your music with lyrics.
WOW Shazam!
tradrsam 5.0 stars Version: 4.8.10
This app keeps getting better! It identifies all the new music I'm hearing on satellite radio and also works with TV shows, TV ads and major sporting events, like the Super Bowl. Very cool. Must have.

Crashes every tag
236 477 791 2.0 stars Version: 1.7
Every time I try to tag a song, it completes the listen then crashes. When I open the app again it has the correct song tagged but when I tap on it it comes up with "unrecognized". Can you fix this so I can actually USE the app? Thanks!
Works amazingly well!
parkstech 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Wow! It actually works! I used it in the car while listening to the radio and it found the song for me! Extremely useful and simple. I like that I can buy the song directly from the iTunes Music Store on the iPhone! Get it! It's free!
Perfect
kryponite 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is by far the most accurate and handy app that I have downloaded so far, and I've downloaded a lot. I know this concept is hard to believe but it works every time.
When it doesn't lock up, it works great....
justnm 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
I have used it about 4 times. 2/4 time that I selected the app, my phone locked up and I had to re-started it.. :( :(
Nice app
Vega82 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Seems like a pretty cool app. It pulled most of the mao stream music I had however anything that wasn't top 40 it had trouble finding. I'd recomend allowing users to submitt entries of music that isn't found.
Lots of Bugs and Ads
HelloFrancis 1.0 stars Version: 1.7
Now that it's ad supported it's less appealing. Greedy? Get rid of the ads. I'd rather pay for the app than get the ads. They tend to slow down the procesing of the info pages too. Also, there are a lot of bugs with the new 3.0 supported version. The entire app just shuts off when it's done listening to a song. No tag, no record of anything. Get it together guys. 3.0 wasn't a surprise to you to develop on.
Not good
Taba Choy 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Compare to midomi...I did and you can actually hum the tune---midomi picks it up. I've used both products once.
Student
Rubyguitar 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Very cool premise, but only works on mainstream, popular music so far.
People should be given an option
Eckelberry 1.0 stars Version: 1.5
People should be given an option between paying for an app and gettig no ads, and getting it for free with ads. I hate adware. Noticed that this app has gone down 1/2 star in the past day JUST because of ads?
It's ok...
TKJ9999 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
I dl'd this because of the raving reviews this has gotten. Doesn't recognize half of the songs (nothing obscure) I try and you also need to be pretty close to the source. This means if you're in a store and you hear a cool song, forget it. I don't fault it for that but I do fault it for not recognizing songs from say "Wings" or the "Rolling Stones". The songs that it does recognize I have to play it 2 or 3 times first before it gets it. It is a neat concept I guess.
Ad-supported now...
SurferNerd 1.0 stars Version: 1.5
Boo, I'd rather pay $2.00 for the app and not get the ads. Shame on you for the new version!
Amazingly helpful
nearlysober 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is crazy convienent to have in your pocket. Hear a cool song in a commercial? Find out what it is. Annoying DJ on the radio never tells you what the song was after it plays? Find out what it is. Have some old mis-labeled mp3s on your harddrive? Find out what they are! I've found infinate uses for this app... fast, cool, reliable. Highly recommended.
When a yell this applications name it's from pure joy!
umeditor 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Shazam really makes you want to yell Shazam every time you use it. It's been able to determine every song I've thrown at it from obscure Detroit funk to British folk singers. I don't know how it works, but it feels like magic!
Great way to show off your iPhone.
BombAbear 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I seriously will sit around and put on songs I know the names of just for fun. The YouTube integration is awesome. Great way to wow your peeps and show off the power of your iPhone. Thanks for the awesome app. I will be donating. :)
Not to impressed
imezru 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
I tried this app and was not to impressed with it ( i know all these people say its great ) . I tried 20 songs and it only got 11. I tried to mix it up with different music ( it missed a Dashboard song but got a Brand New song , it missed a Rebelution song but strange enough got a different Dashboard song , i tried this on many genres of music with the same results ) each song it missed i tried at least 3 times and no luck . When it worked it was great .I feel they need to broaden their library and this would be a Fantastic App .
Wow never need to scramble for pen/paper again
maplebrit 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Every music lover needs this app. I can;t tell you how many times i have been driving and wanted to know the name of a song!! now iphone and Shazam has me covered!
Absolutely amazing - never thought this could be possible
HPR 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a truly amazing app and it work flawlessly. It is not limited to just mainstream music -- I even tried some Indian music samples and I got the correct results. I am not able to believe someone could automate this kind of a thing.
NOT FREE
stephenfsnow 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
This service will soon require a monthly fee. Check out Midomi, it is truly free.
Re: hidden fees
THE REAL LION 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
You've got to be really stupid to think that there's a hidden fee for programs like this. No one in America can make you pay for an Application without letting you know. Besides, how can you be billed for an Application when it is not part of your service plan? AT & T has absolutely no business with what goes on in the App store. Ever heard of Class Action? Neither Apple nor AT & T could allow this, idiot! Stop confusing people and get a life! Maybe see a psychiatrist or something!
FRAUD! DONT DOWNLOAD THIS APP!!! NOT FREE!!!
Bradyoski 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
The app being "free" only applies to the initial 30 trial. After 30 days you will be charged either £0,50 (about $1 current market value) per Tag or may opt to enroll the Tag Club for ₤2 (about $4 current market value). By downloading the app you have already agreed to these terms and conditIons and have agreed to any fees or charges that arise by continuing to use this app after the initial 30 day period.
Superb
BPinard 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This technology has been around for a few years, but I must say this is the bet implementation I have ever seen. Slick interface, phone vibrates when recording is done (better than having a sound which you probably wouldn't hear due to your music playing). All in all a well thought out and useful app. I have yet to experience an occasion where ID fails.
Blown Away
-DjD- 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
As advertised in about 15 seconds Shazam will have listened to the music, sent it to the cloud, and spit back the answer. Absolutely amazing! The name is perfect!
Limited
Theorivas 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Doesn't seem to work for classical nor some jazz nor world music. Like magic for contemporary, popular music.
This app is spectacular
Quadropheniac10 5.0 stars Version: 1.5
It works so well- EVEN IN CROWDED RESTAURANTS OR WHEN MY CAR RADIO IS EXPERIENCING FEEDBACK.
Shazam Confirms -- No Hidden Fees or Trial Period
