by on 20. Oct, 2010 in Right now we’re in the middle of the MLB playoffs, almost halfway through football season, at the beginning of hockey season, and the NBA regular season is rapidly approaching. That’s what it’s essential for anyone with any sort of interest in sports to have a sports app. But why have an app for every sport or for every team you follow, when you can have one app that covers everything? That’s why we’re providing you with a review of these four comprehensive sports apps. This app seems like a fantastic app with tons of great features and lots of news and statistics, and while this is true, it is not executed in the best manner. Sportacular provides the user with scores for over 20 sports and sporting events, standings, news, and the ability to create your own profile. All this information can be sorted by

Sports fans are awakening from hibernation, and so we sent a little e-mail around to all the members of the JAiB team asking what apps people were using to follow their favourite sports. Hit the jump to see the results, and feel free to leave your own favourite sport-related apps in the comments! Frank I would say Sportacular is my go to sports app for everything right now. The push notifications work great to keep me informed with latest game coverage. I wish there was support for boxing. I am a huge boxing fan and I still can’t believe there is not one sports app that covers boxing. I am hopeful that one day: ESPN, Sportacular, or Sportstap will feature boxing coverage. I can’t be the only boxing fan left, right? Patrick Good call on lack of a good boxing app. I’d love to see Boxing News do one (if they

I only follow a few sports teams, but for the teams I do follow, Sportacular (that's the iTunes link for the free version, and here's the paid version, sans ads) is definitely my app of choice. For nearly every professional sport you can think of, the app will track scores, plays, schedules, standings, and anything else you need to know about everything from NFL to college football to the English Premier League and the PGA. Right after iPhone OS 3.0 came out, the developer added in push notifications, and now I've got push updates coming whenever the Cubs have a game starting and ending (or at least, when they did -- there's always next year) and whenever a Bears quarter ends. Sportacular even has a few social features happening -- you can make picks and discuss each game with other fans using your Facebook login, as well as read news and

I finally got my 3GS this week, so the two apps I’m covering are both photography based. I left it to Patrick to round out the selection, since he loves rounding out selections (don’t read into that, it doesn’t actually mean anything). Here’s what we were rocking in the free world for this week: Sportacular Concept: A sports scores, news and updates app. Strengths: Very nice UI (better than Sports Tap and ESPN IMO), covers a good range of sports, has tons of features – e.g. uses Facebook Connect to let you share comments on games etc, and lets you track your fantasy players. Non-Strengths: Could add some more sports to its range of coverage, especially non-US ones. Overall: A good option for iPhone sports fans. Pixelpipe Concept: The mother of all media sharing, micro-blogging apps for the iPhone. Share photos, videos (from the new 3GS), or micro-blog text to a

Women's basketball doesn't work
Yreffej
Version: 2.2
Women's NCAA Basketball does not work. It says there are no teams in any of the conferences. I switched to ESPN.
Missing NCAA Women's Basketball
QwaziModem
Version: 2.2
I'm not a huge fan of NCAA Women's Basketball but I like to keep current on who's who and what's what. Unfortunately this ap doesn't list any games/scores...ever. Any night, any conference returns "no game scheduled." Really?
Great ap!!!

Version: 2.2
I don't have time to watch all the games that I would like to, but this app keeps me up to date and gives me the channel to watch the game on when it's close. I have had this app for years and still use it almost daily-
Good Sports App with few flaws
Rift-1d
Version: 1.0
Great app with tons of features including player stats and daily updated standings for college sports (which I love). Also it is easy to use and makes looking up news and scores enjoyable. The only problem though is that it only carries the most popular sports here in America. If you wanted Racing, Tennis, Golf, Soccer, or even the Olympics, you currently won't find that on Sportacular and would instead need Sportstap which is also a great program. People are too quick to discard sportstap (which has already been updated once) even though it provides useful scores and info that this program doesn't. Using them together, like I choose to do, has been the way to go.
Best sports app of the iPhone!!!
Sio2man
Version: 1.5
This is the best sports app I've seen. For the iPhone, and I've tried a bunch. It's free, but still provides more than the pay apps. The only thing it doesn't have are team logos and video.
Best. App. Ever.

This is amazing. Best sports app out there. And for free! Ridiculous.
Great App
The Quas
Version: 1.0
Do like the other reviews said. Get this app! I'm not a huge sports fan, but it's nice to have all this info in one place. Price is right too! Worth a few bucks if they wanted to charge, but their free philosophy is great.
Fantastic
stlcadet11

Much better than other free (and paid) apps. Seemless navigation and a smooth operation led me to uninstall another certain app and replace it with this.
Not as Comprehensive as I Thought
Gadget Guru
Version: 1.0
The author of this program forgot to include MLS and MLS Standings.
Olympic coverage would be nice.
The best so far!!
Cfountain72
Version: 1.0
I thought the previous reviews might be exagerrations entered by family members. I was wrong. This is better than SportsTap or any other sports app currently available for iPhone, and even includes custom fantasy team tracking! And, yes, it's free!
I would've given 5 stars, but the graphics could use a little more polish.
Still, great work!
Best sports App BY FAR
Ryanleafasaurus
Version: 1.0
Gives you latest news, scores and information for NFL, NBA, NHL, NCAA football and basketball and MLB, one of my favorite features is the Fantasy Football feature, I can add players who I have on FF teams and it keeps track of their stats, very useful way of being up to date on your FF team. I usually don't donate(ya I know, I'm an a**h*le,) but I am for this app, I'd love to keep it free and make it better.
FPA

Couldn't ask for much more. If you like sports make sure you have this app.
This is what the app store is meant for.
jd0169
Version: 1.0
This app is really great. I had previously just been using ESPN's iPhone site but this apps grabs news headlines from not only espn but yahoo, cbs and fox as well. Checking scores and standing is quick and easy. With all the garbage that is in the app store, this is surely a diamond in the rough.
Nice Application
MikeMpls
Version: 1.0
I'm not a huge sports fan - but do enjoy checking out scores - the user interface is nicely done - looks great on the iphone - the data seems logically arranged. I plan to donoate a buck or two to them via pay pal for their efforts - I hope others do as well - since this app is getting such great reviews, and its free to install, I think people should show a bit of appreciation for the time and effort they took on this.
awesome..

This app is awesome. I had sportstap but deleted it cuz this is way better. I love how their is news and fantasy player tracker. Awesome!
Just Phenomenal
Mattld
Version: 1.1
I had the "other" score app and was not very impressed. The ads were quite annoying. I got this app and although I thought the icon was a little lame I tried it anyway. The app is just done very well. This developer knows how to make an app. It is clean and very intuitive. A new icon would be nice, but this is just a well done app.
Great app but would love to see MMA coverage!
Mav74
Version: 1.1
UFC and MMA is exploding! Would love to see an update that includes it!
great app,very impressive, free!!
merlehaggardfan
Version: 1.0
this is my first review of any app, but if anyone gripes about this one they need to be thrown UNDER the bus! shows all the stats, news, and important info you need in all the sports you care about. even lets you input your fantasy teams to keep track of their progress. very smooth, works great, oh and it's FREE!!! thanks to this developer, i will donate to help keep it free. oh and 1 more major plus.....it has the betting lines on every game!!! the bookie's not gonna like me!! download this great app.
Great app!

The interface is easy to navigate and the scores update frequently. Iwould love to see a few things added, like English Primer league and more info on the MLS scores. Thanks for such a great app!!!
Finally a Good Sports App
BHIP
Version: 1.4
Could look a lot better, but has everything you need in a sports app.
Great App!
UAB Nurse
Version: 1.1
One if not the best sport app out there. I agree with one review that Div 1 AA and Div II schools need to be available.
Best Sports App...1 Error!

PLEASE UPDATE COLLEGE FOOTBALL
JDS09
Version: 1.1
THIS APP WOULD BE THE BEST APP IF COLLEGE FOOTBALL WAS UPDATED. BY THIS I MEAN PLAYER STATS, BOX SCORES, STATS OF THE GAME, TEAM STATS, ETC. PLEASE UPDATE AS THE SEASON HAS ALREADY BEGUN.
This app is Sportacular! | Free App - We should Donate! | Better than Sportstap? YES
iamse7en
Version: 1.0
The Good: Wow. Very comprehensive sporting statistics and game updates; has 4 separate tabs of info for each sport: scores, standings, player stats, and news then 3 sub-tabs for each of those categories; with all this detail, it's organized very beautifully and intuitively; you can view the headlines within the app; custom groups to follow your favorite players and fantasy teams; very quick and smooth app
Great
Oh No Da Man is Here!
Version: 1.0
The App is great, but it should have been called Sportgasm. Click yes if you agree
Flawless Sports App - definitely a first page app
Green94
Version: 1.0
I've been looking for something that can give me scores, standings, stats.... this App does it all. Not to mention, there is a tab for news and it pulls in ESPN, Yahoo, CBS, and Fox .... which is great, but it doesn't boot you out of the App into Safari, it STAYS in the App. Awesome! You can also customize the stats section and include your fantasy teams in the App so that you can check how your players are performing. It's not the prettiest application and adding Rotoworld as a news feed would make it perfect, but there is no way I can give it anything but 5 stars. This is the one I have been waiting for.

Version: 1.0
Nice job by the developers! As a baseball fan I really appreciate the amount of detail the scores/game information has, and the news feeds are a nice bonus. This has replaced SportsTap as my sports score checker of choice... SportsTap really isn't bad at all, it's just that Sportacular is better!
Almost perfect!
BeeNeeB
Version: 1.1
This app does what it's supposed to do. However, since I am NCAA Football junkie, I would like to see the ability to view ALL scores at once. I don't always know the conference, so it's hard to find scores for certain games unless it's the Top 25. Overall, great app! Also, the ability to see news from multiple sources is awesome. However, I just turned off everything except for espn.
Spectacular!!!!!
HomeCraft
Version: 1.0
I just would like to say 3 things:
1) Thanks Jeff (whoever you are)
2) I just deleted Sports Tap
3) Thanks for paypall (but it would of been easier if you just had charge a fee. Well worth it!!!!!!
Ok 1 more: your my first 5 star review. Keep up the work !!!!!!!!
5 stars for v1.0 - 0 stars for v1.1
pastyj
Version: 1.1
v1.0 was fantastic. After upgrading to v1.1 the app simply shuts down after displaying the 'Loading Sports...' screen for 3 seconds. Is it just me?
