While geared toward kids, National Geographic's Weird but True! is a treat for anyone with an iPad who enjoys perusing random trivia. Shake or swipe the iPad within the app to get a random interesting fact, then rate it based on how weird you think the fact is. You can bookmark facts you like, email them to someone or use a fact finder to look for something specific. You also can see weekly top weird facts as rated by users. Weird but True! has 300 facts, and I can see future updates adding more. The type is large and easy to read, and the graphics are catchy and have the same professional quality as National Geographic magazine. If you want an educational trivia app for the iPad, Weird but True! is a good deal for US$1.99.

By Chris Kirby on October 9th, 2011 This week across the 148Apps network, we mourned the loss of an icon, but celebrated the birth of yet another of his inspired creations. Read on for more.... To say that there were tumultuous ups and downs in the world of all things Apple and iOS this week is a colossal understatement. Suffice it to say, then, that the interest, anticipation and enthusiasm generated for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 4s was sadly muted by the untimely death of Steve Jobs. While the print and television media have eulogized Steve thoroughly, 148Apps.com founder Jeff Scott posted a succinct and elegant send-off for the icon: “Personally I’d like to thank Steve for all he did and all he inspired. It should be obvious, but without what he created this site that I love and labor over wouldn’t be here. He will leave a void that may never

This isn't some interactive extravaganza, but if you find yourself bored with a few spare minutes, its great. The facts are generally interesting, with plenty making you go "hmm" or "wow".
I have the second and third books!

I have the second and third weird but true books (in real book form) and then I saw this app and thought it would be like the other books and I bought it! It is actually a little bit better because you can rank how weird the facts are and stuff. A smart buy for fans of the nat geo kids magazine and the weird but true books. I really recommend it!
Not worth the money

I saw the title and thought this would be great but it's really a waste of money. It's really just a list of facts with very little interactivity. Plus, there is no narration so younger kids (who might actually be entertained by having animals say "that's weird" over and and over again) can't even use the app because they have to be able to read the facts themselves. Very disappointing.

This is so much fun! I love the facts and being able to rate them, but my very favorite thing is the animals that pop in to comment on the weirdness of the facts in all different voices. I thought I was buying this for my daughter, but I'm not sure I'm ready to share!
Such fun!
